Van Bueren has been an invaluable volunteer board member over the past year, playing a key role in establishing the Ho‘ōla LTRG’s Resources Roundtable guidelines, fostering the Disaster Case Management and Roundtable relationship, and welcoming new funders—all with a steadfast commitment to individual recovery.
He joins Ho‘ōla LTRG from The Salvation Army, where he served as the Director for the Long-Term Maui Recovery Project. In this capacity, he coordinated programs and services while managing a donation budget of approximately $12 million. His involvement with National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOAD) and Hawai‘i Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (HIVOAD) demonstrates his dedication to building partnerships across government and nonprofit sectors to serve the community effectively.
In addition to his new role, Van Bueren will continue to serve as the Chair for the Resources Roundtable, ensuring ongoing leadership and collaboration in this critical area.
“Stephen’s unwavering commitment to our community and his extensive experience in disaster recovery make him an exceptional addition to our leadership team,” said Rhonda Alexander-Monkres, Executive Director of Ho‘ōla LTRG. “His dedication and strategic vision will be instrumental as we continue our mission to support Maui’s recovery and build a more resilient future.”
